Press Release Summary: The need for fostering and strengthening the cooperation
among universities, research laboratories as well as industries need not be
overemphasized.

Press Release Body: Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS), Pilani Rajasthan
is a Deemed University (established under section 3 of the UGC Act. 1956 under
notification no. F.12-23/63.U-2 dated 18th June, 1964) running educational
programmes both on-campus as well as off-campus, offering degrees at all
three-tiers, namely, Integrated First Degree, Higher Degree and Ph.D.

The task of a university is the creation of future and BITS Pilani by joining hands
with a host of Industries and Research Laboratories, has created an entirely new
educational philosophy in cooperative education.

BITS Pilani has established strong linkages with the industry and research
laboratories for the past over three decades through the Practice School Program for
the campus students, Work Integrated Learning Programmes for the Human Resource
Development of a whole spectrum of Indian Corporate majors and off campus PhD.

The strong industry linkages concept is what puts BITS Pilani as one among the top
ranking universities in India today. Recently the WASE collaboration pioneered by
Wipro and BITS Pilani bagged the coveted Corporate University Xchange (CUX) USA
award for Best Practice in College Corporate partnership.

Considering the need for a dedicated journal to foster the university Research
Laboratories Industry interactions and document the efforts, BITS Pilani chose the
auspicious April 14, 2008 Ramnavami day which also happens to be the birthday of the
Institute's founder Chairman Shri G D Birla to release the Journal CURIE which
stands for Cooperation among University, Research and Industrial Enterprises.

Prof LK Maheshwari Vice Chancellor BITS Pilani released the journal in the Lecture
Theatre Complex in a brief function attended by DR Chandra Shekhar Director CEERI,
senior officers, faculty members and students of the Institute. Felicitation
messages which came from across the world on this occasion included Director BITS
Pilani Dubai Campus, Prof T C Goel, Director BITS Pilani Goa Campus, Prof VS Rao
Director BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus, Prof G Sundar Dean Practice School
Programmes, Dr YS Rajan Principal Adviser Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)
Gurgaon, Prof D Balasubramanian Director L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) Hyderabad,
Mr K S Viswanathan Senior Vice President Strategic Sales & Products Wipro Infotech
Bangalore, Mr D Selvan Senior Vice President Talent Transformation Wipro
Technologies.

In India today, the launching of Journal CURIE by BITS Pilani marks yet another
milestone in Cooperative Education.
